An illegal immigrant from Guatemala was arrested Monday by Utah police after allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.
According to police records obtained by KSL, 26-year-old Jonathan Estuardo Ruano Garcia was arrested Monday in Utah on charges of enticing a minor, child rape, and forgery. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office told The Daily Wire that Ruano Garcia is currently detained in the Utah County Jail and that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a detainer on the Guatemalan national.
A police booking affidavit reviewed by KSL explained that a Utah mother entered her apartment complex at roughly 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, where her 11-year-old daughter had been left alone. As she entered, she “observed an adult male leaving her apartment. The mother said the male made eye contact but then quickly walked away.”
After entering the apartment, the mother reportedly found her young daughter “completely naked” in the hallway of the apartment. The police report said that after the mother questioned the child about what had happened, “The 11-year-old girl told her mother that a male she met on the internet came to the apartment and had sex with her.”
KSL reported that the 11-year-old girl told her mother that she had given the illegal immigrant her address so he could come to the apartment after having multiple sexual conversations with the Guatemalan national on social media.

The Provo Police Department was notified of the incident and quickly launched an investigation into the child rape allegation. The police were able to use the child’s Instagram account and conversations with the suspect to determine the man’s identity as Ruano Garcia. After locating the illegal immigrant at his home, “Ruano Garcia admitted that he put his penis in her vagina and had sex with the 11 year old for 20-30 min,” the police report stated.
According to the police report, Garcia said that he thought the girl was 13 or 14 and that he started having conversations with her online after meeting her at a soccer game. “Ruano Garcia admitted that the chats he had with the victim turned sexual and he sent naked photos of his penis on multiple occasions,” the police report added.
In addition to the charges of enticing a minor and child rape, Ruano Garcia also faces charges of forgery, according to the police report. While arresting the illegal immigrant, police discovered a fake social security card. Asked about the authenticity of the social security card, Ruano Garcia “admitted that it was fake and that he paid money for it when he came to the United States.”
